The Design Process
I created Flowtus as an assignment for Visual Design I. The goal for this assignment was to create a three-page mobile app that followed the rules of design as well as a style guide all to be created in Figma. This process was to be done in two weeks. This deadline left little time for research and began with diving into brainstorming, prototyping, and wireframes.
Research + Brain Storm
With little time for research, I based this open-ended app design on something I enjoy in my free time, Yoga. At my current studio, there is an app to book classes and the option to take online classes is available. Yet, the online courses are external through zoom and the app has no tracking of classes, fitness, or direct contact to instructors.
To aid these issues, I created Flowtus. I used the MindBody app (my studios app), the Apple Watch app, LuluLemon, and Nike as inspiration paired with my prior knowledge and passion for yoga. With these apps as inspiration, I came up with ideas to include online classes, fitness tracking, recommendations, encouragement, and products.
Style Guide
Once I began in the creation process, I started with the style guide. I began by coming up with the name Flowtus which is inspired by yoga flow and the lotus the symbol for inner peace. I created this logo. Once the logo was set, I chose two main colors and three secondary colors that fit along the scheme of the first two. I created a typography font pair of Golden Hour and Raleway with various weights and sizes to create a hierarchy. To keep the app modern, I chose to use rounded square shapes and floating navigation paired with a light drop shadow.
Design
In my designs, I created a minimalistic yet colorful design to embrace the passionate and friendly environment of the app. The login page is a simple relaxing gradient that then leads to the home page which explains the date, classes you have scheduled, and an advertisement for a zen excursion. The analytics page is inspired by the Apple Watch app but remade to be more user-friendly while having the basics of fitness analytics on the home page. This fitness tracking was made for newer users as well as long-term users because it tracks weekly to yearly exercises. The last page is the product page. This was inspired by LuluLemon and Nike mobile apps. The floating transparent background object images create a modern and minimalistic feel which fits the theme of Flowtus.
Retrospective
Looking back, I feel like this was a successful mobile app creation for the short time limit given. I think with the sole focus of design, I grew immensely in my visual design skills and experience. Yet, If I had more time there are several things I think I could’ve improved.
If I had more time…
Explore competitively and comparatively
Usability test features
Build out more pages and features

Add comment/review and rating ability
